PAYROLL SPECIALIST

ABOUT THE JOB

We are seeking a Payroll Specialist who will take the lead in the timely and accurate preparation and processing of payroll, for both weekly and semi-monthly payrolls in accordance with the Company’s policies and in compliance with statutory legislation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

On a day-to-day basis your responsibilities will include:

  • Administer semi-monthly and weekly salaried and hourly payrolls, including accurate and timely processing (hires, changes, terminations, timecard maintenance, bonus and other special payments), and reconciling payroll reports and data
  • Responsible for the reconciliation of reports related to monthly remittances such as EHT, WSIB and Union dues
  • Assist in the year-end processing and reporting for T4, T2200s, taxable benefits, garnishee, EHT and WSIB
  • Support year-end processing and reconciliation of payroll filings and returns – Federal and Provincial
  • Support the planning and execution of annual compensation related changes and payout, including annual incentive payments, salary changes, bonus allocation to RRSP
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual and ad-hoc reporting
  • Support leaves and absences, including Maternity, Parental, and Long-term Disability
  • Respond to queries from employees
  • Work closely with members of the HR team on any employee and project initiatives
  • Continuous learning through NPI and other courses (annual legislative updates, seminars, etc.)
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and documenting current work processes and workflow

QUALIFICATIONS

To succeed, candidates must possess the following combination of education, experience and skills:

  • 5+ years of hands-on progressive full-cycle payroll experience
  • Ceridian DayForce or equivalent system experience is required
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll-related tax legislation and employment standards (payroll source deductions, EHT, statutory holidays, overtime etc.)
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically in Excel, including V-lookups and PIVOT tables and formulae
  • PCP designation from the National Payroll Institute (NPI) required
  • University degree or College diploma required
  • A positive attitude with a desire to provide an excellent impression in each interaction
  • A curious mind that is not afraid to take initiative
  • A collaborative approach to understanding issues and coming up with solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to interact with all levels of employees with diplomacy
